Tuesday, September 25, 2012 1:22 pm

The Indianapolis Colts, in conjunction with the NFL’s national celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, continued their celebration at their game against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, Sept. 23. During the game’s third quarter, the team presented the second annual NFL Hispanic Heritage Leadership Award to Bingham Greenebaum Doll LLP partner Rafael A. Sanchez.

The NFL Hispanic Heritage Leadership Award was launched in 2011 by the NFL through a partnership with the Hispanic Heritage Foundation. It was created to recognize the contributions of Hispanic leaders in each NFL market. With support from Bud Light, each award recipient has also selected an organization of their choice that serves the Hispanic community to receive a $3,000 donation. Locally, Sanchez has chosen La Plaza, Inc. to receive this donation.

Sanchez actively serves the community as a board member for the United Way of Central Indiana and Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce, in addition to his role as trustee for the Cancer Support Community. As a member of the Indianapolis 2012 Super Bowl Host Committee, Sanchez led the Emerging Business Subcommittee as co-chair. The former commissioner of the Mayor’s Commission on Latino Affairs in Indianapolis has also served on a number of boards and councils that include the Indianapolis Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, La Plaza, Inc., The Children’s Museum and Indiana Sports Corp.
