JPMorgan Chase & Co received a painful reminder recently that mistakes can be very costly after their appeal to the Second Circuit was remanded; the clerical mix-up could cost the company $1.5 billion.

Section 9-509(d)(1) of the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) provides that a UCC-3 termination statement is effective only if “the secured party of record authorizes the filing.”

Some lending institutions do not give Form 1099-C enough credit. It can be an admission that indebtedness has been cancelled. For that reason, a Form 1099-C should only be filed with the IRS when a debt has been cancelled and discharged.

On Monday, April 8, the Bingham Greenebaum Doll LLP Women’s Forum prepared an apartment at Coburn Place Safe Haven for a family in need. Coburn Place, located in Indianapolis, provides women who have suffered from domestic violence and their children a chance at a fresh start by providing safe, affordable housing for up to two years. The members of the BGD Women’s Forum were honored and excited to make the apartment a home for this family, which includes a teenage girl and a young boy.
