Renewable Power Facility Will Renew Former Eastgate Mall Property
Posted in Real Estate

BGD has recently obtained a 37-acre rezone approval for a new solar power generation facility.  The facility will be located at the formerly vacant Eastgate Mall property on the eastside of Indianapolis. BGD represented New Generation Power, a Chicago-based renewable energy company specializing in solar power development and operations, in the rezoning process. BGD provided counsel in obtaining the necessary zoning approvals while also providing support concerning the lease agreements between a New Generation Power affiliated entity and the property owner.

The Eastgate solar power project includes the placement of new solar panels on the roof of the former mall building and also the construction of carports with solar panels in portions of the surrounding parking lot. The placement of these solar panels on the roof and carports will put these portions of the property to good use, providing clean energy while also maintaining the existing building and parking areas for appropriate reuse. By example, portions of the building and parking area are currently used by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department as a Regional Operations Center. These solar power facilities will function seamlessly with the IMPD operations, and also with other future users who may utilize other portions of the building and parking areas.

Due in part to the efforts of BGD, solar power generation will become one additional element in a brighter future for the former Eastgate Mall property and for BGD client New Generation Power.
