Summer Associates | Why BGD?

Summer associates at BGD have an unparalleled, hands-on experience with the law. Our summer associates have the opportunity to consult with clients and to attend trials, hearings, oral arguments, negotiating sessions and closings. We make sure that summers are spent in immersive learning instead of performing research or document review.

Our fall associate class draws heavily on our summer program participants. First year associates are matched with an associate mentor for their first six months at the firm, often with a partner who was involved in the associate’s summer program experience.

The BGD summer program provides a realistic view of what life is like at our firm. We do this by exposing summer associates to as many experiences and practice areas as possible. We encourage summer associates to participate in pro bono work, community programs and local legal aid societies.

Outside of the office, our summer associates have opportunities to engage with their peers and with the attorneys at our firm through formal and informal social outings. These outings may include:

  • Group outings to local sporting events

  • Team building activities

  • Informal dinners at attorneys’ homes

  • Shared volunteer projects
