American Bankruptcy Institute’s 20th Annual Southeast Bankruptcy Workshop

Join Bingham Greenebaum Doll LLP partner Claude R. “Chip” Bowles Jr. at the American Bankruptcy Institute’s 20th Annual Southeast Bankruptcy Workshop on July 23-26. An outstanding faculty of regional judges, academics and practitioners will present workshops on the hottest topics in bankruptcy law.

Bowles will moderate the session entitled “CONSUMER TRACK: Bankruptcy and Divorce: Critical Issues for Attorneys (and the Start of a Sad Country Song)” from 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. on July 25. The session will focus on issues frequently confronted in cases that involve both financial distress and domestic problems. Discussion topics will include:

  • Domestic-support obligations;
  • Impact of the automatic stay in domestic-relations cases;
  • Discharge litigation in Chapter 13s;
  • Retention of domestic-relations counsel in bankruptcy; and
  • Same-sex spouses in bankruptcy cases in states where same-sex marriage is not recognized.
