WinStar Farm LLC's Super Saver and Drosselmeyer win big in this season's Triple Crown
Congratulations to one of our clients, WinStar Farm, the owner and breeder of the coltsSuper Saver, who won the 136th Kentucky Derby, and Drosselmeyer, who won the 142nd Belmont Stakes.
Super Saver is by Maria's Mon (now deceased), owned by Josephine Abercrombie’s Pin Oak Farm, also a Greenebaum client. The colt’s dam, Supercharger, is a daughter of A.P. Indy and a full sister to WinStar’s Bluegrass Cat, who ran second for WinStar in the 2006 Kentucky Derby. Jockey Calvin Borel, the winner of three of the past four Kentucky Derbies, made an outstanding ride on this colt on a sloppy track. This was the first Derby victory for trainer Todd Pletcher.
Drosselmeyer has a distinctive pedigree known for its speed and staminia. He was sired by Distorted Humor. His dam, Golden Ballet, is a descendant of Northern Dancer and Seattle Slew. Drosselmeyer’s jockey was Mike Smith, the winner of the 2005 Kentucky Derby and 1993 Preakness. This was the first Belmont Stakes victory for trainer Bill Mott.
WinStar Farm is located in Woodford County, Kentucky and was established by owners Bill Casner and Kenny Trout in 2000. Messrs. Troutt and Casner founded Excel Communications in Dallas, a company that went public in 1996.
Bill Casner is also a founding member of The Race For Education, a national scholarship foundation that provides educational opportunities to children of racing's backside and farm workers. Greenebaum serves as counsel to The Race for Education. Greenebaum’s Chairman Phil Scott was a member of its inaugural board of directors, and Greenebaum member Tandy Patrick currently sits on this board.
