BGD Attorney Dubbed “Everyday Hero” in Latest LBA Bar Briefs

clientuploads/DLK-logo.jpgBingham Greenebaum Doll LLP attorney Jessica T. Sorrels was hailed as an “everyday hero” in the latest issue of Louisville Bar Association Bar Briefs for her work with the Doctors & Lawyers for Kids (DLK) program. The DLK is a medical-legal partnership, created in Louisville in 2011, with the goal to practice preventive law in a medical setting to improve the health and well-being of indigent children.

She first became involved with the DLK when she chose the organization as her service project through the LBA’s 2013 Leadership Academy. She, along with two other attorneys from different firms, completed their project and continued to volunteer for DLK.

Her first assigned case with the DLK concerned a grandmother trying to gain medical assistance for her grandchildren; she was unable to get assistance because she was not the children’s legal guardian. Sorrels took the lead on this particular case and secured benefits for the family. In fact, she became so engaged that she directed a clothing drive for the family and delivered Christmas gifts to their home.

Sorrels is a 2007 University of Louisville School of Law graduate and a member of the Litigation Practice Group at BGD. She grew up in a poor eastern Kentucky county and looks at the DLK as a way to give back to the community.
