BGD Partner Bill Kaiser Leading PUD River Centre Project in Jasper

At a recent special meeting, the Jasper Plan Commission pushed the River Centre development at the former Jasper Cabinet property one step further. A team led by Bingham Greenebaum Doll LLP partner William J. Kaiser Jr. was able to secure the development of a planned unit development (PUD) for the site on and around the north bank of the Patoka River near the Jasper Train Depot in downtown Jasper.

A PUD is an urban development tool that allows mixed-use development on projects like the River Centre that will include retail, housing, office space and a hotel. It grants developers freedom from zoning requirements as long as they meet Jasper’s overall development and land use goals in the area.

“There will be a lot of activity. There will be a mixture of residential apartments, retail space and a hotel,” said Kaiser when asked why the development group was seeking a PUD.

After a productive meeting in which Kaiser and the entire River Centre development team addressed all of the Jasper Plan Commission’s concerns, the PUD request was passed unanimously.

Representatives for River Centre were happy with the board’s decision and are excited to move forward with the project. Kaiser said the River Centre development coupled with the approval of the Jasper Public Library’s referendum “bodes well for what’s going to happen on the riverfront.”

The PUD now moves to the Jasper Common Council for final approval at that group’s next meeting.

Kaiser was assisted by D. Bryan Weese, Gregory J. Ewing AICP, Sue A. Beesley, David T. McGimpsey, Brittany Brockman and Sandra Kays.
