BGD Partner John R. Gregg Announces Candidacy for 2016 Indiana Governor's Race
BGD partner John R. Gregg has announced his candidacy via email and video for the 2016 Indiana Governor’s race. The former Democratic House Speaker previously sought this office in 2012, narrowly losing to current Indiana Republican Governor Mike Pence. His announcement set the tone for his campaign, promising vast improvement for Indiana.
“I'm running because I see Indiana missing out on opportunities to grow our economy, improve education and address infrastructure needs. I am not running to advance a social agenda,” he said.
“It's time we create living wage jobs, actively encourage Indiana’s better-paying employers to expand and let Americans know Indiana is a welcoming place. It's time we work to improve our public schools: quit attacking our elected State Superintendent; adequately fund Preschool education and make sure college is accessible and affordable.
“Furthermore, as a state that prides ourselves as the 'crossroads of America,' it's time we develop a plan to improve our roads, bridges, sewers, water plants and ensure all Hoosiers have Internet access.”
John Gregg is expected to compete with Glenda Ritz, who may also seek the Democratic nomination.
John’s legal practice focuses on assisting local governments, municipalities, school corporations and businesses with regulatory and business matters. He has a long record of public service including several years in the Indiana House of Representatives and most recently serving as President of Vincennes University, which he helped transition from a two-year to four-year curriculum.
