Bingham Greenebaum Doll Releases Guide on Divorce in Kentucky

12.06.2013

Bingham Greenebaum Doll LLP is pleased to announce the launch of its latest guide, “Divorce in Kentucky.”  The guide outlines what divorcing spouses can expect and best practices to follow during the divorce process.

“A guide like ‘Divorce in Kentucky’ is essential in helping divorcing spouses navigate the legal and personal aspects of divorce while avoiding the misinformation that is often so prevalent in divorce cases,” said Margaret E. Keane, Bingham Greenebaum Doll LLP Partner. “Our team has developed a guide that we hope will prove useful in what can sometimes be a complex and confusing situation.”

Jesse A. Mudd, a Bingham Greenebaum Doll LLP Partner who helped develop the guide, said, “Ultimately, we sought to create a comprehensive guide that provides concise, practical answers to all the difficult questions surrounding divorce.”

“Divorce in Kentucky” provides divorcing spouses with an overview of the divorce process, including spousal maintenance, debt division and marital property division including the possible consequences based on the date of the divorce filing. This information can be especially important for business owners who may need to adjust their business succession plans or estate plans due to a divorce.

The guide also covers children’s issues such as child custody, visitation and child support.  In addition, it explains the differences between legal custody and physical custody, which are often not known to parents until the custody arrangements are being made. “Divorce in Kentucky” also addresses what spouses should do if they suspect child abuse. The ethical considerations for children involved in a divorce, including best practices for parents and the importance of counseling, are also highlighted.

“Divorce in Kentucky” also outlines what a client should expect of his or her attorney, and what the attorney expects from the client in return.  Often, many clients are unaware of the time commitments and amount of research to be done on their end. The guide is designed to set those expectations up front in the hopes of saving the client time and money.
