Bingham McHale Announces Merger with McTurnan & Turner

01.02.2008

Today, the law firm of Bingham McHale LLP announced that it has merged with the litigation firm of McTurnan &Turner.  With the merger, Bingham McHale has one of the largest and most experienced business litigation departments in Indiana.

Since its founding in 1989, McTurnan & Turner has assembled a group of unusually talented lawyers who routinely handle complex litigation matters.  Its lawyers have worked closely with clients and corporate counsel to resolve a wide range of disputes, including claims involving corporate securities and governance, class actions, employment/discrimination, defense of accountants, lawyers and securities broker-dealers, competition/regulatory litigation, contract disputes, commercial fraud and other business torts, appellate practice, and constitutional issues.

"The lawyers at McTurnan & Turner have a reputation for being among the best business litigators in the Midwest.  This combination is an important part of our strategy to provide excellent representation to the business community in Indiana," said W. Tobin McClamroch, managing partner, Bingham McHale.

Effective January 1, 2008, the following attorneys, along with 7 support staff, have joined Bingham McHale.

  • Lee B. McTurnan
  • Wayne C. Turner
  • John F. McCauley
  • Anne L. Cowgur
  • Gregory A. Neibarger
  • Jacqueline B. Ponder
  • Kenneth J. Munson
  • Carl A. Hayes
  • Michael R. Limrick
  • Shannon D. Landreth

“This move expands our capacity to handle major civil litigation and to be among the first choices for businesses faced with a serious fight,” said Wayne C. Turner, McTurnan & Turner.  “It’s also just a great fit - we have been neighbors on adjacent floors for years, and we know and like their people.  We are very enthusiastic about working together and the expanded opportunities that this merger brings.”

McTurnan & Turner attorneys add immediate value to Bingham McHale’s litigation department, which serves businesses and individuals from all sectors of the economy by combining substantive experience with extensive trial practice.  Consisting of (pre-merger) 26 partners, 8 of counsels, 18 associates and 10 paralegals with broad-based experience in numerous areas from both the plaintiff and defense perspectives, Bingham McHale’s litigation department handles contracts and commercial disputes, shareholder/owner disputes, unfair trade practices and antitrust matters, intellectual property, and product distribution disputes.   Other focus areas include appellate, creditors’ rights, white collar/criminal defense, insurance defense, and media/First Amendment.

Bingham McHale has enjoyed strong growth in recent years with the acquisition of Kiefer McGoff in 2005, resulting in a bolstered white collar and criminal defense practice led by Dick Kiefer and Kevin McGoff.  In May 2007, Bingham McHale Economic Advisors, LLC (BEDA) was launched under the leadership of Jay Walters and an experienced staff focused on economic development strategies, location analysis, and incentive negotiation and fulfillment.
