Department for Environmental Protection Adds to Leadership Team
The Department for Environmental Protection (DEP) announced the appointment of a new Director for the Division of Compliance Assistance (DCA) as well as the appointments of four new Assistant Directors in the Division for Air Quality (DAQ), the Division of Water (DOW), the DCA and the Division of Environmental Program Support.
Larry Taylor was been appointed Director of DCA effective Oct. 16, 2014. Taylor began working in the department in 1994, spending time in the Division for Environmental Services where he reviewed human and ecological risk assessments. In 2003, Taylor moved to the Commissioner’s Office and served as the lead science and policy advisor. Taylor joins existing Directors Peter Goodman (DOW), Sean Alteri (DAQ), Tony Hatton (DWM), Jeff Cummins, Division of Enforcement, and Jason Whisman, Division of Environmental Program Support.
Andrea Smith was appointed as Assistant Director of DAQ on Sept. 16, 2014. Smith is a 25-year veteran of the Division that was most recently manager of the Division’s program planning and administration branch.
Tom Gabbard was appointed as Assistant Director of the DOW on Oct. 16, 2014. Gabbard has been a DOW employee since 1985, a majority of which has been spent working with facilities and agency inspectors as the manager of the Division’s Compliance and Technical Assistance Branch.
Paulette Akers assumed the Assistant Director position in the DCA on Nov. 1, 2014. A 12-year veteran of the department, Akers was formerly the manager of the Watershed Management Branch in the DOW.
Nina Hockensmith was appointed as Assistant Director of the Division of Environmental Program Support on Sept. 16, 2014. She was formerly the manager of the Division of Environmental Program Support’s Administrative Support branch.
These new appointees join Tim Hubbard, who has been the Assistant Director of the DWM since 2008, and Mark Cleland, who has been Assistant Director of the Division of Enforcement since 2012.
