Eight BGD Attorneys Participate in the 3rd Annual Re-entry Fair
On April 6, 2018, BGD will participate in the 3rd Annual Re-entry Job and Resource Fair, hosted by the IU McKinney School of Law’s Second Chance Re-Entry Assistance Program. The fair will be held at Light of the World Church (4646 N. Michigan Road, Indianapolis, IN) from 10am to 2pm. This event is an opportunity for individuals who are indigent or have criminal histories to connect with public assistance offices and potential employers.
Additionally, the fair is an opportunity for IU McKinney law students to get real world experience under the supervision of local attorneys, through consultations with fair attendees on a range of legal issues. Eight BGD attorneys will be partnered with law students for the sake of the students’ development and the community at large.
Available community resources include information on education, public assistance, and record expungement. As well, representatives from the BMV will be available to issue or reinstate licenses. Spearheaded by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Indiana, the fair’s job initiative allows attendees to receive assistance with resumes and interview preparation, as well as introduce them to local employers like Penske, Anthem, Goodwill Industries, UPS, Marriott, and the City of Indianapolis.
From BGD’s Indianapolis office, James Reed, Michael Gaerte, Carl Hayes, Margaret Hayes, Justin Hage, Kyle Montrose, Andrew Pendexter, and Kyle Resetarits will each be overseeing students while they get hands on experience. BGD will also have an information table to consult with potential pro bono clients.
