Gina McCarthy Confirmed as EPA Administrator
After a lengthy confirmation process, the Senate voted 69-40 to confirm Gina McCarthy as the next EPA Administrator on July 18, 2013. President Obama nominated McCarthy to lead the agency in March to succeed outgoing Administrator Lisa Jackson. McCarthy was appointed by Obama in 2009 to serve as Assistant Administrator for EPA’s Office of Air and Radiation. Previously, McCarthy served as the Commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection.
