Gov. Matt Bevin Appoints Tandy C. Patrick Chair of Kentucky Horse Park Commission
BGD partner Tandy C. Patrick has been appointed the new chairwoman of the Kentucky Horse Park Commission by Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin. Tandy had previously served as Chair under Governor Ernie Fletcher’s administration; she was named to replace Alston Kerr, who chaired the Commission since 2008; Rebecca Jordan of Georgetown and Matt Dedden of Burlington were also appointed to the Commission.
Patrick, a saddlebred owner, also served as interim chairwoman of the independent World Games 2010 Foundation after Jim Host resigned in 2007. Patrick is a lifelong horse owner, breeder and exhibitor, and represents a variety of horse owners and breeders from several states.
“The people of the Commonwealth have asked for a change in leadership at the Horse Park and Tandy has proven herself as an exceptional leader,” Don Parkinson, secretary of the Cabinet of Tourism, Arts and Heritage said in his release. “During her previous tenure, Tandy was instrumental in bringing the World Equestrian Games to Lexington. The Horse Park is fortunate to once again have her talent.”
The Kentucky Horse Park is currently facing a financial audit called for by Senate Majority Floor Leader Damon Thayer, and legislation is pending to reduce the Commission from 17 to 9 members. Gov. Bevin is hopeful that his new appointees can address some of the issues facing the Horse Park, and was praised for “getting some good people on the Horse Park to take a look at some of the problems I’ve identified and some identified by the Finance Cabinet” by Thayer.
“There are some good people on that board, and my hope is they will work closely with some new members to take a close look at policies and procedures I’ve brought to light in the last few weeks,” Thayer said.
Please join the firm in congratulating Tandy on her esteemed appointment.
