Jim Reed Appears as Guest Speaker on “Pete the Planner” Radio Segment
Bingham Greenebaum Doll LLP partner James Reed was a recent guest on the radio program “Pete the Planner” with award-winning host Peter Dunn. Reed, whose practice is concentrated in the legal aspect of relationship transitions, gave listeners advice on what divorcing spouses should do with the former marital residence. He often recommends selling the home in a divorce.
“The house is always going to be a big decision. Basically, if you talk about it from a purely financial prospective, selling the house as part of the divorce is the best thing because it puts you on equal footing for custody issues. [It] also allows you to share the expense of the cost of sale, which only occurs if it’s sold as part of the divorce. It also apportions risks evenly,” Reed said. “Those are really key components for people going through the divorce to understand.”
“Pete the Planner” airs Sundays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on 93 WIBC and provides expert personal finance advice.
