Media Advisory: WellPoint and Bingham McHale Bring Street Law to Howe High School Academy
Legal staff from WellPoint, Inc., Bingham McHale LLP and students and teachers from Howe High School Academy. Legal staff and students will be available for photos and interviews.
This week, legal staff from Bingham McHale LLP and WellPoint, Inc. (NYSE: WLP), will team up to encourage Howe High School Academy students to pursue legal careers during three days of interaction and workshops, November 16-18. This outreach is based on Street Law, Inc., a program that began in 1972 with law students in Washington D.C. reaching out to high school kids.

- Tuesday, Nov. 16 at 1:40 p.m. at Howe High School Academy, 4900 Julian Avenue
- Wednesday, Nov. 17 at 8:25 a.m. at Howe High School Academy, 4900 Julian Avenue
- Thursday, Nov. 18, 8:30 a.m. – 1:15 p.m. at WellPoint headquarters on Monument Circle
On Tuesday, November 16 and 17, legal associates from WellPoint and Bingham McHale LLP will join Howe teacher Frank Pagano’s classroom and work with students during two class sessions each day. The legal program will culminate with a half day workshop on Thursday, November 18 at WellPoint headquarters on Monument Circle.
The workshop will offer students a real taste of what it takes to practice law including a role playing exercise, where the students will have the opportunity to litigate. Attorneys, paralegals and other legal staff from Bingham McHale LLP and WellPoint will also teach the students about Contracts and Employment Law during the three day program.
Street Law is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing practical, participatory education about law, democracy, and human rights. Through its philosophy and programs, people are empowered to transform democratic ideals into citizen action. The Street Law program provides at-risk students with practical, participatory lessons on law and legal careers.
