Senior Partner John W. Ames Honored as First Recipient and Co-Namesake of ABI Education Award
Please join Bingham Greenebaum Doll LLP in congratulating senior partner and Bankruptcy and Creditor/Debtor Rights Team Co-Leader John W. Ames on being recently honored at the American Bankruptcy Institute’s 20th Annual Southeast Bankruptcy Conference.
As a part of John’s recognition, the ABI announced the establishment of the Judy Thompson – John Ames Award, which will be presented each year to the individual contributing most to the association’s educational efforts. As the award’s first recipient, John was recognized for his extraordinary innovation and leadership in creating and sustaining the ABI Southeast Bankruptcy Workshop.
“I am proud to have been a part of the inception and continuation of the ABI Southeast Bankruptcy Conference, and prouder still to have built a legacy honored by having an award named after Judy and me,” he said.
John, along with Judy Thompson and five other original ABI members, organized the first Southeast Conference in July 1995. He explains, “Our goal was to create a workshop, an interactive format, which would be held in a family atmosphere location somewhere at a beach resort in the Southeast.”
The conference has remained an association favorite, bringing in around 400 attendees each year. John believes the workshop’s popularity is a result of its “family orientation and informality combined with high quality educational programs and opportunities to meet some of the superstars in the bankruptcy field nationally, as well as bankruptcy judges in a social atmosphere.”
John has been a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute for more than 30 years and has served in various roles, including President in 2007.
