Overview

Since joining the firm in 2009, Alex has concentrated his practice in the area of complex commercial litigation in federal and state trial and appellate courts. Among his experience, Alex has litigated disputes involving class action defense, contracts, premises liability, intellectual property, unfair competition, securities, real property, utility law, and state and local government. 

Alex graduated from the Indiana University Maurer School of Law, cum laude, in 2009. While there, he served as the Executive Problem Editor for the 2008-2009 Sherman Minton Moot Court, taught fifth grade students about the law as part of the Outreach for Legal Literacy program and served as a managing editor of the Global Legal Studies Law Journal. Alex also served as a judicial extern for U.S. District Court Judge Larry J. McKinney of the Southern District of Indiana and for the Monroe County Public Defender’s Office during law school.

Alex is actively involved in the community, including, among other endeavors, serving on the board of Ovar’Coming Together, a local non-profit dedicated to finding a cure for ovarian cancer, and serving on the board of the Indianapolis Zoo Council.

Alex has worked on many matters alongside other members of the firm’s litigation team, including the following:

  • Raab v. Kent W. Abernathy and the Indiana BMV, 49D11-1310-PL-038001 (Marion Superior Court 11), defense of Indiana BMV in class action seeking damages for alleged overcharges of fees paid by Indiana motorists
  • Komyatti v. Consolidated City of Indianapolis-Marion County, 2013 Ind. App. Unpub. LEXIS 568 (Ind. Ct. App. 2013) (trans. denied), defense of utility in action seeking damages for negligence
  • Dalzell v. Country View Family Farms, LLC, 2013 U.S. App. LEXIS 13621 (7th Cir. April 2013), defense of large pork producer in federal district court and the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals in agricultural nuisance case brought by national plaintiffs' counsel and successfully utilize Indiana's Right to Farm Act to obtain judgment in favor of farming client
  • Veolia Water Indianapolis LLC v. Nat'l Trust Ins. Co., 2012 Ind. App. LEXIS 367 (Ind. Ct. App. Aug. 3, 2012), defense of municipal water utility in action seeking damages for fire loss
  • McDaniel Fire Systems, LLC v. 3S Inc., et al., (Porter Superior Court 2010), represent fire protection and suppression company in litigation arising out of client’s acquisition of employees from competitor and establishment of new branch office with acquired employees in competitor’s primary territory. Successfully defeat plaintiff competitor’s request for injunctive relief, obtain monetary payment from plaintiff competitor, and avoid all restrictive obligations of the competitor’s non-compete agreements with its former employees hired by client
