James is a trial lawyer concentrating his practice on the litigation of intellectual property disputes and business disputes of all kinds including: patent, copyright, trademark, and trade dress infringement; misappropriation of trade secrets; breach of real estate related contracts or duties (including premises liability cases); zoning disputes; environmental contamination; breach of UCC/sale of goods contracts; products liability; data security breaches; and unfair competition claims. His practice also involves the litigation of complex matters, including nationwide class actions and multi-district litigation. While in law school at Indiana University Maurer School of Law, Hinshaw was an associate editor of the Indiana Law Journal, and was inducted into the Order of the Coif.

Hinshaw serves as Co-Chair of the firm's Litigation Department. He has been repeatedly recognized in Benchmark Litigation, Best Lawyers, and Indiana Super Lawyers for his work in business litigation and intellectual property litigation.
