Overview
Jeff is a partner in the firm’s Tax and Employee Benefits department. He practices in the areas of property tax, economic development, and environmental law. Jeff approaches each client as an individual and pursues a custom approach to address each client’s issues. In cases of tax litigation, his goal is to maximize the fairness in tax assessments for his clients.
He has represented taxpayers in a variety of industries in tax litigation matters. Jeff is part of the firm’s tax litigation team which has one of the largest collections of state and local tax litigation partners in the region. He has collectively litigated more than a hundred tax cases in the Indiana Tax Court and the Indiana Supreme Court. The state and local cases that Jeff handles sometimes involve state and federal constitutional provisions. He has also frequently represents clients in property tax disputes concerning the valuation of business personal property.
Jeff frequently assists clients in matters of economic development, including negotiating and obtaining incentives such as tax abatement and real estate matters. He is experienced in serving clients in the utility and energy sectors, including but not limited to wind energy companies in Indiana.
Jeff earned his J.D. from Indiana University Maurer School of Law. He earned his undergraduate degree from DePauw University. Jeff received admission to the Indiana Bar, the U.S. District Court, Southern and Northern Districts of Indiana in 1989. He was admitted to the U.S. Supreme Court in 2005.
