He earned his law degree in 1972 at Indiana University Maurer School of Law, J.D., after receiving his undergraduate degree from Indiana University - Bloomington, in 1969. He was admitted to the Indiana Bar in 1972; U.S. District Court, Southern District of Indiana in 1974, and 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in 1974.
