Overview

Phil is a partner with Bingham Greenebaum Doll LLP in Indianapolis, with over 25 years of litigation and trial experience. He has previously chaired the firm’s Litigation Practice Group and has been lead counsel for jury trials conducted in courts across Indiana. He has mediated and arbitrated hundreds of cases and serves as counsel, mediator and arbitration panelist. He has overseen litigation in a multitude of settings including complex business litigation, products liability, professional malpractice, environmental, fire, trucking, antitrust, unfair competition, copyright, trademark, trust, probate and defamation. Phil has served as Indiana trial counsel for such national companies as Kohler, Landstar, Broan, Shell Oil, ASCAP, Culligan and Schering Plough. He also represents insurance companies and their insureds on coverage and third-party cases.

A Distinguished Fellow of the Indianapolis Bar Foundation and former President of the Indianapolis Bar Association (1998), he is also an active member in the American Bar Association, the Indiana State Bar Association, The Indianapolis Law Club, The International Association of Defense Counsel, Transportation Lawyers Association and USLAW. He served as chair of the Young Lawyers Division of the Indianapolis Bar Association before moving on to the Board as its secretary, vice president and counsel. He continues to serve as a delegate to the Indiana State Bar Association, is the IBA delegate to the ABA and has been a director of USLAW.

A captain of the 1981 NCAA Champion Indiana University basketball team, he graduated from the Kelley School of Business that same year. He is a lifetime member of the Indiana Alumni Association and is also an I-Association and Varsity Club member. A member of the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame where he was inducted as a Silver Anniversary player in 2002, he now serves on its board and executive committee. Phil is a frequent speaker at ACC seminars, Bench-Bar Conferences, ICLEF, and is a contributing author and speaker for his professional organizations. He has been a volunteer coach for high school varsity basketball and other sports for the past 20 years. He and his wife, Jenny, reside in Zionsville and have three children: Matt, Jack and Katie.

  • Callaway v. Mathew; Court of Appeals of Indiana, August 6, 2010 - The appellate court upheld the jury verdict in favor of our client in a complicated will contest
  • Outback Steakhouse v. Markley; 856 N. E. 2d 65 (Ind. 2006) - Post-trial depositions, hearings and appeal to Supreme Court of Indiana involving alleged negligent serving of alcohol, catastrophic injuries and attorney misconduct
